Still Life
11th Rotation Homework Theme - Still Life
Wikipedia defines still life photography as 'a genre of photography used for the depiction of inanimate subject matter, typically a small group of objects.' You will be using items from home, so find a way to make your photo interesting. Think about the composition and arrangement of your items, what story you are telling, use interesting lighting or backgrounds!
Remember to make a still life you need a variety of items (think 5 or more) and you need to have a foreground, mid-ground and background! This is not a lay-flat assignment!
For your sketchbook, you MUST draw from observation! But that means you need to take a photo of whatever you are drawing to act as your reference for grades!
Remember no social media 'filters.' No photoshopping or editing! Must be captured in camera!
No matter if you are looking for the perfect reference for your sketchbook or for that perfect shot with the camera, keep the following in mind:
-
Try a new point of view, get down low or stand above & over your subject
-
Think beyond the obvious & and be creative
-
Always be thoughtful of your composition - PLAN your space! Remember you MUST utilize MARGINS in your sketchbook
