Product Photography - Jell-O Brand Pudding
Competency:
#801 Operate digital camera and accessories #802 Compose a photograph through the lens #803 Demonstrate use of lighting
In this rotation, you will be photographing Jell-O brand Pudding. This commercial product shoot involving food and learning about food styling.
Your concept for this photo shoot is 'Fun with Food' and you are required to include that as your headline or sub-headline.
Project: The key to a strong product shoot is PLANNING! Think about your product, props, color scheme, lighting, angle of the camera and the theme. You will be responsible for coming up with a theme and headlines. Think about your product, your space, your props, your color scheme, your lighting, your angle of the camera…
Remember your target audience is OPEN and up to you. This leaves your design OPEN for creativity!
You must have 'Fun with Food' planned somewhere on your Adv, as either a headline or secondary headline.
2nd Year students must have include a recipe and your advertisement will need to include that recipe.
Remember you MAY NOT eat your product or you will have a ZERO!
Vocab for this Rotation:
- 8.5x11 Magazine Ad
- Tagline
- Clipping Path
- Copyright
- Sub Tagline
- Logo
- Prop
- Call to Action
For this rotation, you will be design 6 -9 different thumbnails with a variety of layouts, props, themes, etc.
Then you will pick the 2 strongest ideas to move forward to Roughs; roughs must indicate color and have the headline and subhead written out fully, along with indication of any body copy, logos, and call to actions.
In studio, you will photograph BOTH rough ideas, as well as a variety of creatives so you have plenty of photographs to make a successful adv!
You will also photograph your clipping path of your Jell-O product as learned about for Ritz
-
Remember you MAY NOT eat your product!

"Fun with Food"
While 'Fun with Food' must be on your advertisement - it does not need to be your main focus or concept!!
Please be more creative with your use of fun with food to set your adv apart from the class!
For example - take this Ritz Adv, where 'Top This' was worked into a sub-headline and used as an accompaniment to their main headline 'Putting on the Ritz'. It wasn't just the only headline used -- so think about for Jell-O what you can do to make 'fun with food' your own.
L2 Students MUST include a recipe using Jell-O brand pudding mix! Your recipe cannot be how to make the pudding itself! You may also NOT just 'layer' pudding with fruit - there is NO recipe with that!
Many recipes use pudding powder as an ingredient -- you will need to do research before starting the planning process for your adv! Check out these sites or more for inspiration:

You do not need to make these products yourself -- if you pick cookies made with vanilla mix, go buy similar looking cookies and we will pretend they were made with the mix!
